Pvt. Bud A. Guillory
Alexandrian War Victim
An Alexandria solder who volunteered for Vietnam after being given a "safe" assignment in Germany by the Army,
Thursday was reported killed in action.
Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Guillory, Jr. of 3500 Laurel Street have been informed that their son, Pvt. Bud A Guillory, died
Wednesday from wounds received when the weapons carrier he was riding hit a mine. Pvt. Guillory was 20.
Following training the Army sent him to Germany. Under current military policy the minimum two-year assignment to
Germany would have insured that he would not have had to fight in Vietnam during his three-year hitch. His family said
today that he was not a "career" man. But once in Germany he volunteered for Vietnam.
Pvt. Guillory's one-year tour in the war zone was due to end next month. He was a native of Forest Hill, moving here with
his family in 1966. He attended St. Rita's school and Bolton High school and was a member of the boy scouts. Between the
time he left school and when he joined the Army, he worked for the Holiday Inn in Monroe.
Funeral services are expected to be held in St. Rita's Catholic church with burial in Alexandria National Cemetery.
Arrangements were incomplete pending arrival of the body. Hixson Brothers Funeral Home will direct arrangements.
Beside his parents, Guillory is survived by two brothers, N.E. Guillory the II and Russell Guillory, both of Alexandria; three
sisters, Mrs Joylin Hoffman, Miss Viola Guillory, Miss Violet Guillory, all of Alexandria, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs.
N.E. Guillory Sr. of Forest Hill.

Memories of Eddie
from Judy LaBorde
Eddie was the boy next door for me, literally, all through high school. He was from a really good family—Loved each and
every one of them! Not all neighbors now-a-days get along as well as ours did. We probably rode the school bus together
each day. {That was back when most high schoolers didn't have their own wheels.} We attended the same Church where
his sister played piano during Mass. The main event I remember about Eddie is my stepping into his hospital room, after
his automobile accident on graduation night with his date. To my surprise, it felt like visiting more a brother than a friend.
When I first laid eyes on him with all his white bandages and suspended, cast leg(s), I lost it did an immediate U-turn back
into the hall. After I collected my wits & stepped back into his room, tough ole’ he-man Eddie was just ‘a laughing at me.
Either he had had a good dose of pain meds or he was relating to me like a sister too--probably a combination of both.

Memories of Arthur "Pat" Mayeux from Judy LaBorde
I consider myself one lucky person to have had a nice chat with Pat only a few months ago, on April 18, 2009, when I was
calling around to confirm classmates' contact data.
I suspect he knew of his cancer then, but he didn't mention it. He told me about his multi-state traveling job, made me tired
just thinking about such stress at our ripe old ages...
His sense of humor came through even then. He said his last name only has one A. His father used to say, "The 2nd A
means you're from Angola." He then kiddingly confirmed Ronnie Mayeaux was from Angola (meaning he has the 2nd A).
Even though he didn't remember me (why would he?--our paths never crossed), Pat's memory was impressive. He
voluntarily offered me this Class tidbit: he remembered with whom he went to the Junior-Senior prom! (Mike Juneau's
sister Gertrude.) He was good friends with Mike Juneau, and actually -- get ready for chills down your spine -- has a letter
from Mike from the Vietnam combat zone! Pat said when he learned of Mike's death, he went and joined the Marines and
went to Vietnam himself, altho at the time he was going to LSUA. He was in the Marines 68-70.
We exchanged a couple of Emails later, but I so very much regret I never got to stop by and say hello in person since that
delightful chat.
Memories of Pat Mayeux from Rose Marie Giambrone
I talked to Pat about 1 month ago. He found out in March about his cancer. It was already in the 4th stage.
We had a lovely talk about old times when we were teenagers in high school. I remember our graduation night. Pat, myself,
Pete Spera, Donald Fusilier, Mickie Myers and some others I do not remember, all piled into Pat's old chevy and God
forbid, drove out to Lake Margaret in the Lecompte woods , in a rain storm! Since it was graduation night, the guys were
determined to pull an all nighter at the lake, drinking their beer lol !!!!!!! Well they did. Mud slinging and wet lol!!
I went to the funeral home tonight. I put a single long stem red rose next to him in his coffin. Prayed a prayer. "May you rest
in peace my friend" He looked so frail. An American flag draped his coffin. Met his only child, a daughter, and his wife.
Hugged necks and left thinking how unfair. Life is not fair, but God is just.
I remember Pat had this old car with no shocks! Once, when 3 of us were hanging out together, he drove over the railroad
tracks by the old train station, driving over the speed limit. That car did not stop bouncing all over road until we got to my
house which was on Fulton Dr. off of Parkway! Pete and Pat were over at my parents house most Sundays for dinner, except
when Pete's mama was cooking. My mama cooked awesome pasta for the gang with melt in your mouth meat balls as big
as your fist.
Memories of Pat Mayeux from his wife Claire
Hi, I am Pat's wife, Claire. I was so touched by this (the information of Pat on the website) and just wanted everyone to
know. It has been a month since Pat died and I just now got on his email to clear out any mail that needed to be responded
to. I so much appreciate the things said about Pat on the class website. He was the love of my life and he left me with many
great memories. He talked a lot of his high school days and all his friends. Thanks to you all for posting this and keeping
his memory alive.
I have the letters that Pat received from Mike Juneau and will try to scan them for you to post or at least to put in the
archives. He was the reason Pat joined the Marines and went to fight in Viet Nam. They were so close and Pat told me he
felt a loyalty to him to take up where he left off.
I think it is so great that classmates work so hard to keep up with each other.

from Cindy Bize
I remember during P.E. class one time when Janis told me that beet juice helped to ease menstural cramps, but I
never could bring myself to drink it.:)
I also remember trying to put myself in her shoes on that first day of school being the first black girl to attend
Providence. I looked around the room for her, but she was so fair complected I missed her. I wondered if she
was scared or nervous and that made me uncomfortable about being prejudice.

Class "sisters" -- she in California and me in Kentucky, she informed me that 2 yrs ago, she was diagnosed with
pancreatic cancer, had had surgery, radiation, chemo, and then was valiantly fighting the disease with a 2-hr
round trip 3x/wk for "cutting edge gene" treatments in California. She talked about her deep religious belief in
letting the Lord's will be done, and the power of prayer, and her fond memories of how friendly she remember
the PCH Class of '66. Poetically, her Email name was "look4methere." Now we know the "there" about which Jan
was speaking...We shall all meet "there" in the PCH section of that ultimate destination...

The Deville man whose Ford truck hit a Honda sedan Wednesday afternoon in a fatal crash on the Cottingham Expressway in
Pineville had at least three moving violations and a DWI in Rapides Parish, records show.
Jeffery N. Deville, 48, of Deville has not been charged in connection with the Wednesday crash that killed Barbara 'Barbi' Fry,
60, and Louis Edmond Tyner, 64, both of Pollock.
According to court documents, Deville was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 1988 and was given a 10-day jail
sentence that was suspended. He was also ordered to pay $556 in fines and court costs.
In October 1994, Deville was cited for improper turning in connection with a wreck handled by State Police. In August 2001,
he was charged by State Police for careless operation, and in 2007 for running a stop sign, also by State Police.
Pineville Police officers are still in the process of reconstructing Wednesday's crash and evaluating the vehicles. No charges
have been filed or citations issued at this time. The investigation continues.

Remembrances from classmates of Barbara Selby
Adrienne Bernhard
I remember Barbara's sweet face and personality from high school. Pictures of her from the newspaper show the same sweet
face and I'm sure from the comments made by friends and co-workers that she still had that wonderful sweet personality.
Cindy Tullier
So sad. I do remember how sweet and shy she was.
Peggy Baillio
Her sweetness I do remember, she was a very precious person.
Judy Flournoy
Barbara and I were friends from 2nd grade though High School. Many sleep overs and all the silly things girls do. She was a
great friend always fun, great smile, lots of laughs, very sweet. Glad to see she got to teach, her dream job. She loved her
BOYS! She was a great friend, will be missed.
Rose Marie Giambrone
Emma Jean Viola and I went to Barbara's wake. It was packed. It was a closed casket. I am not surprised. It was a really bad
accident. The car was torn in half and she was thrown from the car into a ditch. I spoke to her former husband and her son. I
told them who we were and asked them to tell Ann that we were there and to thank her for helping us find Barbara. She was
not there at the time. She had taken her mother to the hospital, she had fallen and feared a broken hip. Very tragic accident
to happen to Barbara. I really felt for her sons. they were very nice and very nice looking. Alan Bordelon was also there.
It was my honor to be able to go to Barbara's wake. We signed the book with our name, class of 1966. Below is the program
from her wake.

Classmate Memories of Mary
December 28, 2009
Dear Jon and Family,
Mary was a wonderful friend in High School and right after. We kind of lost contact when ya'll married and she
moved up north, but I still remember our "good times". She was in my wedding in 1969 and I was at the guest
book for ya'll's wedding in Pineville. She was the nicest, kindest person I have ever known and remember and
will always remember her in my thoughts and prayers. The small picture in the guest book photos was taken
during high school. She and I went after school to have hers and mine made. I still have those photos in an
album. They were made at Provine Studios here in Alexandria.
Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers and always will be.
May God Bless you and Yours and be with you, Always.

To Mary's family,
I am so sad to hear about Mary's passing. I went to Providence with Mary, also. She was so sweet, thoughtful,
kind and always smiling! I want to share a memory that I have: I'm not sure if it was Freshman or Sophomore
year but Mary decided that she would save Mallo Cup wrappers so that she could get some prize. We all saved
them for her also. When I slept over they were under her bed in a box and when she had saved the 100's of
wrappers she sent them and was so proud that she had done such a feat! You see it shows that she could do
whatever she set out to do! All of you will be in my prayers as you go thru this sad time. May your memories of
your sweet Mary help you in the days to come. She is definitely in Heaven waiting for you!

Mary was our classmate at Our Lady of Prompt Succor School and Providence Academy in Alexandria, LA. We
remember her fondly as a sweet and kind person, who taught us as children that polio would not get the best of
her. We are so sorry for your loss and will keep you in our prayers.

surely she is there waiting. My prayers are for you John, and your family. May your memories bring you laughter,
joy and peace.

Rodney was a good friend as well a my cousin. We have been around each other all our lives. We hunted and fished together
many times over the years. He was still calling girl high school softball games. Something he has done since his 20s. He loved
doing that, even in 100 degree weather, in fact, he had called games all that Saturday before he had the heart attack. I will miss
my friend!
